‘Love Jihad’ - Dialogue among religions necessary

Nazrani Trophy Award Distribution Function
Nazrani Trophy Award function will be held on Friday the 16th October 2009 at Catholicate Higher Secondary School, Pathanamthitta at 2 pm. The function will be presided over by H. G. Mathews Mar Theodosius Metropolitan, Corporate Manager of Catholicate & M.D Schools. H. G. Paulose Mar Pachomios will inaugurate the function. Sri. Jathavedan Namboothiri, Retired D. G. P of Gujarat state will deliver the keynote address. Trophy’s and medals for excellence in different subject will also be distributed in the function.

STOTS Convocation 09

St. Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary, Nagpur held it’s Convocation on 7th Oct.2009 in the Seminary campus premises. The ceremony was presided over by H.B. Paulose Mar Milithios, the Catholicos Designate of the Malankara Orthodox Church.
H. G. Dr. Yakoob Mar Irenaios, H.G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius and H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascorus were also present.  The Convocation Address was given by a world-renowned personality, Fr. Dr. John Behr, the Rector of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, New York, USA.

The Convocation ceremony began with a procession into the Convocation Hall, with the candidates for the Degree of Graduate in Sacred Theology in front, followed by the faculty members and the Guest Speaker. The bishops followed by the Chancellor Himself brought up the rear of the procession. After all had occupied their places, passage from the Holy Bible was read out by Fr.Dr.Bijesh Philip and then H.B. led the gathering in prayer. Fr.Dr.Reji Mathew, the principal of STOTS welcomed the dignitaries to the ceremony, and the Chancellor then officially declared Convocation 2009 open. H.B. delivered an inspiring speech in which he emphasized on the mission of the Church as its vision. “A true theologian must be a man of prayer” said H.B., and went on to mention that there is no theology without mission. In the context of seminary education, he emphasized that the theology studied must grow to its practical sense.

The next programme was the Convocation Address by Fr.Dr.John Behr. In the course of his insightful and thought provoking talk, he highlighted the need for the Church to have an open attitude towards the world, for which the Christian have to follow Christ till the Cross.

Soon after, the names of the candidates were announced by Fr.Dr.Shaji P. John, the Registrar, the candidates stood up and made a vociferous ‘Profession of Faith’ in unison. Following this, the Chancellor admitted the candidates using his authority, and officially awarded Degrees to them in person. The Degrees of Candidates taking them in absentia were also declared. In accordance with the convocation tradition, outstanding students from each passed out batch were given Awards of Merit by H.B.

After the conclusion of the Awarding Ceremony, H. G. Dr. Yakoob Mar Irenaios, the Metropolitan of Kochi Diocese felicitated the new degree holders. Fr. Vineeth Koshy delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the new degree holders. Priests and laity from various other denominations were also present during the programme. Next, the Divyabodhanam online programme was inaugurated by H.B. This was set up to increase the scope of its activities among the laity, in a much more convenient and effective manner.

Oct 7th, 2009 was also the 60th birthday of H.G. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, the metropolitan of Mumbai Diocese and the Chairman of the STOTS Governing Body. H.G. being hospitalized was felicitated by Fr. Ninan K. George, Vice-Principal, in absentia at the convocation. This concluded the ceremony and the chancellor declared the convocation dissolved. The Catholica Mangala Ganam was sung by the choir and then the members dispersed.

Family Welfare Month Inauguration
 As per Kalpana No.328/2009of H. H. The Catholicos, Orthodox Church is observing October 2009 as ‘Family Welfare Month‘.

An impressive inaugural ceremony was held at Mar Elia Cathedral, Kottayam on 4th October. His Holiness has appealed to all members of the Church, sister Churches, communities, voluntary organizations and political parties to join together in the fight against social evils caused by family disintegration.

H. G. Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Metropolitan, President, Human Resources Department of the Church presided over the function. Dr. Cyriac Thomas, former V. C, M. G. University delivered the keynote address. H. G. Mathews Mar Theodosius, Sri. Jose K. Mani, M. P, Sri. V. N. Vasavan, M. L. A, Mrs. Bindu Santhosh, Chairperson, Kottayam Municipal Council, Dr. Biju Jacob I.A & A.S, Dr. George Joseph, Association Secretary, Fr. P. A. Philip, Secretary, HRD and Sri. A. K. Joseph offered felicitations. His Holiness released “ A Heaven on Earth ” directed by Dn.Varghese Lal and  H.G. Dr .Mathews Mar Themothios switched on, the church website for counselling and guidance with respect to marriage and family life. Launching on 4th October.

The Department of Human Resource Management of Malankara Orthodox Church launches the first ever family website of the Church on 4th October at Mar Elia Cathedral Kottayam at the meeting to mark the Inauguration of Family Welfare Month. His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Didymus 1, the Catholicos will launch the website.

This Documentary which aims at saving families at the brink of disintegration is exuberant in its content and presentation. Towering personalities like H. H. Aswathy Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bai, Most. Rev. Mar Chrysostom Valiya Metropolitan, Smt. Sugatha Kumari, Justice Benjamin Koshy, Sr. Joan Chungapura, Dr. P.M. Mathew Vellore, Fr.Dr. O. Thomas in addition to H. H. Catholicos and the H.B. Catholicos Designate share their valuable thoughts and views on different aspects of family life. By the grace of God  Almighty the 4th Gulf Orthodox Youth Conference of the Orthodox Christian Youth Movement is scheduled to be held at Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church Muscat on 1st and 2nd December 2009. “The  Boundaries and Beyond” will be the main theme for the conference.  Around 500 delegates from 10 OCYM Units of Six GCC countries are expected to participate in this annual pilgrimage.  On line registration for the conference had already started and it will  end by Oct 15th .  More details regarding the conference and registration process  can be obtained from the website,  Those who  wish to participate  are requested to register their names online, before October 15th to  avoid last minute  confusion H.G.
